I scrambled madly about the rooftop, changing angles, (over John’s left shoulder) for if I was focused on Paul I would, of course, be missing John (and George and Ringo) and vice versa. It was a typically high-overcast, gray London day. In terms of photographic light, it was quite dull.

On the street below, the police arrive and are filmed as they consult with each other. Are they really supposed to arrest The Beatles? (By now the apparent sweetheart relationship between The Beatles and the British police has worn out. John has been busted in his flat and George is soon to be.)

But this time when the police get to the roof of Apple where The Beatles play overlooking the center of London, they take a wiser course: they do nothing. In a short time, The Beatles finish. John, ever debunking, walks to the mike. “On behalf of the group,” he says, “I hope we passed the audition.”
