RONALD REAGAN “MORNING IN AMERICA” {date} INCOMPLETE

Certainly the tumult of the sixties seemed long gone. Reagan “Morning in America” was the theme, wafting over the land. His single-minded determination to confront the Soviet Union would culminate in the tearing down of the Berlin Wall in 1989, a triumphant moment. And the rise of ‚”market democracies” marked the apparent triumph of America. The Cold War, as I had known it all my life, appeared to have ended.

As an image professional, though, it was easy for me to be cynical about the  “Morning in America” that Reagan’s ad was trumpeting, for the ad itself was virtually identical to Hal Riney’s other ads for wines and banks, all soothing soft images and feel-good paeans to the future.  FROM AN AMERICAN STORY
