Then in 1939, Germany invades Poland and then, when Germany invaded France, peacetime conscription was introduced. By the time of Pearl Harbor the U.S. Army numbered 1,640,000. Then in June 1941 Hitler invaded Russia, and they became our ally. The U.S. Army expanded to 8,300,000 men.
