Bush’s opponent in the general election was Vice President Al Gore. Their debates were interestingly reminiscent of the Kennedy-Nixon debates wherein, famously, the people who listened on radio thought that Nixon had won, while those who watched on TV felt that Kennedy had carried the day. The “telegenic” candidate won.
