MUSIC

KEITH RICHARDS, A MASTER OF THE UNEXPECTED YET COMPELLING INSIGHT, OBSERVED THAT MUSIC RANKED – IN ORDER OF ITS PERVASIVENESS IN HUMAN ACTIVITY – THIRD, AFTER ONLY FOOD AND SEX . FOR MY GENERATION MUSIC WAS THE PLATFORM, THE GLUE THAT HELD US TOGETHER. IT SPOKE TO US, INSPIRED US. EVEN WHEN THE ALL THE PROMISES SEEMED TO FALL APART, WHILE SOME DISTANCED THEMSELVES AND OTHERS MOURNED THE PASSING, EVEN THAT WAS CHRONICLED THROUGH “THE MUSIC.”  BELOW IN NO ORDER ARE LINKS TO A VAST ARRAY OF MUSIC. The Beatles, Global Beatles’ Day, and Me

To quote my fellow Hoosier, the great Kurt Vonnegut, on the wonder of the Beatles: “I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, ‘The Beatles […]

THE EVOLUTION OF THE ROLLING STONES “SATISFACTION”

by roger barone

Post image for THE EVOLUTION OF THE ROLLING STONES “SATISFACTION”
When I was in junior high school (1967-’70) the white kids listened almost exclusively to white bands, Beatles, Stones, Cream, while the African American kids preferred the Temptations, Supremes and Marvin Gaye. Today, my music collection has an eclectic balance of almost everything, and this linked video documents the acceptance of “white” music among minorities. […]

Post image for TASHA GREEN – GRRRL (WITH PLAYLIST)
I met Tasha Green in 2012 in New York City while participating in an exhibition commemorating The Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary at the Morrison Hotel Gallery. I had just finished AMERICAN STORY and was slowly turning my attention to encouraging “Your Stories” when I was introduced to Tasha, who was talking to a friend of […]

THE BEATLES “LET IT BE” “….In the decades between college and this walk I had become a photographer too, and often for the Rolling Stones. As we meandered, Gered matter-of-factly mentioned to me that I was the only photographer to have shot album covers for The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who. That this […]

JONI MITCHELL “BLUE”

by Ethan Russell

Around the time I was photographing Mary I was listening — over and over — to the strains of “Blue,” by a new Canadian-American singer, Joni Mitchell. More powerful music from across the water. . STANLEY BOOTH, AUTHOR 1968 and 2002

Post image for STANLEY BOOTH, AUTHOR 1968 and 2002
Stanley, in my opinion, wrote a book bigger than his subject. It is a book — The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones  (Apple/Amazon/B&N) — that I have read many times and never does it fail to impress.  It is a monumental effort but not– and this irritates some–simple.  So be it. Great requires a […]

BOB DYLAN SUBTERRANEAN HOMESICK BLUES

This video is a link from You Tube. All copyrights remain with the original copyright holders. (See out link policy) It seemed as though every album — from every artist — was a major creative leap further. In 1965 Bob Dylan released Bringing It All Back Home. He was on the cover with an unnamed […]
