My father was working as a producer on Your Hit Parade, the earliest music program on television. Over time he moved to Batton, Barton, Durstine & Osborne, one of the ad agencies for the show, which was sponsored by Lucky Strike. My first words, I like to say, were “L.S.M.F.T” (“Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco”). (FROM AN AMERICAN STORY)

My Uncle Tom Scaiefe, born in 1886, was a Luckies smoker. I remember asking him when I was 7 or so (1952) what the “LS/MFT” on the bottom of his Luckies package meant .

He told me it stood for “Lord Save Me From Truman.”
