In San Francisco hippies are everywhere. More are coming. The announcement of the “Summer of Love” frightens an already nervous City Hall. (Interestingly, the summer of 1967 was called the Summer of Love before it happened.)

Over the airwaves Scott McKenzie sang, “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.” Tens of thousands flock to San Francisco and the Haight, each with his or her own vision of hope and expectation. The San Francisco Chronicle worries, “Where will they sleep? What about drug use?” The kids arrive in endless numbers, many talking about love, looking for love. (FROM AN AMERICAN STORY)
