Then I went to see Michelangelo Antonioni’s movie Blow-Up. It is the story, set in “swinging London,” of an immensely successful English fashion photographer, played by David Hemmings. He drives a Rolls-Royce and is surrounded by beautiful models and musicians smoking hashish. For me, as much as the actors or the plot, the life Antonioni depicts shows it powerfully seductive. Hemmings swings his convertible Rolls Royce around the roundabouts, drops into a pub for lunch, enters his exotic studio with rows of seamless paper. The movie made London – where all this music was coming from already -appears even more attractive, if that were possible.
