“As it grew dark, the white MGA convertible roadster I drove slipped and slithered on the snow-covered mountain road. I was with a friend, and we were late getting back to campus. Still, I pulled into a roadside diner where a television set hung up in one corner because I really did not want to miss this new group from England on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Ed Sullivan, swaying from side to side, told the audience, Yesterday and today our theater has been jammed with newspapermen and hundreds of photographers. These veterans agree with me that the city has never witnessed the excitement stirred by these youngsters from Liverpool who call themselves The Beatles. And as Sullivan swung his arm in an arc to welcome them, the screams rose from the audience, overtaking everything.”
