Shot after a gig in the middle of England. We were struggling to find a cover. The Who had exhausted several photographers already. this photograph was shot in the ennui of it all. The next morning we would drive back to London.
I believe this is some of my best work, if not the best. Shot in support of "Quadrophenia" Peter Townshend's opera after "Tommy," I shot it as my homage to years in England and to the early black and white films that I loved: "The Knack" and "Taste of Honey." It took a month. I lost over twenty...
